Growing Curious, Confident Readers

At Bridge the Gap for Kids, we believe every child deserves the chance to fall in love with reading—and to feel confident while doing it. Storytime at Dover Elementary is one of the ways we make that happen.

Once a month, our board members and dedicated team members spend a Saturday morning at Dover Elementary, reading aloud, sparking conversations, and helping students explore the joy found in books.

This simple act of shared reading creates meaningful moments:

  • Encouragement for students who are working hard to reach grade-level reading goals

  • Exposure to engaging stories that fuel imagination and curiosity

  • Connection with caring adults who show up consistently to cheer them on

Why Storytime Matters

Many children face real challenges in their reading journey. Some need extra practice, others need additional confidence, and all benefit from positive reading experiences.

Storytime brings that support directly to them—warm, welcoming, and judgment-free. Our goal is to help students:

  • Build stronger reading foundations

  • Develop comprehension and vocabulary skills

  • Grow confidence in their abilities

  • Rediscover reading as something fun, not frustrating

Each Storytime session is more than reading aloud—it’s a shared experience that invites kids to laugh, ask questions, think deeply, and follow the adventures of characters who look like them, inspire them, and help them dream big.

By showing up every month, we help create a consistent, encouraging environment where learning feels exciting. When students see trusted adults valuing books and celebrating their efforts, they start to see themselves as readers too.
